Artist
Biography:
Catherine Opie's (American, b. 1961) documentarian approach to fine
art photography has ordained her as one of today's leading artists.
Her interest in cities, landscapes, family life, and architecture,
while seemingly divergent, intimately focus on "what it means
to be humans in these different contexts". Recent exhibitions
include a mid- career survey at the Guggenheim Museum, in addition
to solo-exhibitions at the Walker Art Center, The Museum of Contemporary
art in Chicago and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles
About the Work:
Untitled is a richly colored, highly formal meditation
on the Southern Californian landscape. Stilted houses project dark
shadows onto the dry hills, a pale blue sky frames the dusty view.
Opie's work, however multi-layered, is bound to an aesthetic identity:
saturated colors, crisp clear images, and uncanny visual beauty.
This untitled work is a lovely representation of her architectural
interests.
Market Information:
Opie's work has defied the current art market – her prices
remain strong and her works are highly sought after. Untitled
offers the collector a wonderful opportunity to own this exquisite
image – at a fraction of what her gallery would sell the work.
