Artist
Biography:
Mark Francis (British, b. 1962) is famously known for his austere
but seductive paintings of microscopic cells – vestigial tendrils
floating across the canvas surfaces. The artist studied at St. Martin's
School of Art and later Chelsea School of Art. Since the early 1990's
Francis has exhibited regularly with Maureen Paly, and his work
has been collected by the Irish Museum of Art, Saatchi Collection,
British Council and Tate Modern.
About the Work:
The beauty of Mesh lies just beneath the painting's surface.
Similar in technique to Gerhard Richter's dry-brushing, Francis
transcends the representational microbes to reveal a quality so
close to real that it becomes otherworldly. His sci-fi abstractions
present our world to us through the most minute lens, revealing
properties that border on the mystical.
Market Information:
Francis is a luminary in the British art market – his
works sell at auction for far above the estimates and there seems
to be, even in a volatile economy, a great demand for his work.
Mesh offers the collector a wonderful opportunity to buy an iconic
'microbe' work at an excellent price.
