Artist Biography:
Damien Hirst's (British, b. 1965) wide-ranging practice includes sculpture painting, drawings and prints. Known for his sensational works that launched the YBAs (Young British Artists) in the early 1990s, Hirst's career has continued to provoke and redefine the international art market over the last two decades. In 1992, he exhibited his now famous Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living, a tiger shark in a glass tank of formaldehyde, recently installed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He has exhibited widely, including the Venice Biennial, the Tate Modern and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. In 1995, Hirst was awarded the prestigious Turner Prize.

About the Work:
Opium represents the first time Hirst created a signed edition based on his famous 'spot' paintings. This edition of 500 plays on his fascination with the human experience, life and death, and its intersection between popular culture and art. Titled after pharmaceutical ingredients, Opium is part of a series of methodical, precisionist geometric works that contrast with the random and uncontrollable nature of the artist's 'spin paintings.'

Market Information:
Damien Hirst's consistent demand in the art market keeps his prices high and stable. The Opium print presented is available at certain galleries for $11,500. If you would like to own a great work by one of the most respected and controversial living artists at a down-to-earth price, we invite you to consider this work.
